Candidate Forum @ WCS
Friday morning WCS welcomed eight candidates to our school, including Governor Shumlin, Lt.. Gov Scott, Attorney General Sorrell, Congressman Welch, State Treasurer Pearce, Secretary of State Condos and candidates for Governor, Mullin, and Lt. Governor, Corren. Prior to the forum seventh and eighth grade students researched the issues and wrote questions for the candidates while fifth and sixth grade students decorated the school with hand-drawn candidate posters. Washington DC
Each year Swift House offers a spring field trip for all interested 5th-8th grade students. This year we'll be headed to Washington DC from June 1-5, 2015 to learn about everything from our federal government to pandas to modern art. All students on the trip will take on a research project related to Washington DC starting in February. 8th graders will find a resource connected to their year-long 8th Grade Challenge projects.

Attached below is an electronic version of the packet your student was given earlier this week. We have more copies of the packet at school if you need one! Please read all forms, you will find three forms that need to filled out and returned along with a deposit by Friday, October 31 (Behavior Contract, Medical Form, DC Permission slip).
If you would like to chaperone and have not had a background check for previous chaperoning please read Chaperone Rules and Expectations carefully, you will need to take care of background check paperwork.
Have your student return the necessary paperwork to Mrs. Barland, Swift TA.
8th Grade Challenge Handbook with Kickoff Form
The 8th Grade Challenge Project gives students the opportunity to explore a topic or problem of deep personal interest, produce an original product, and present to an appropriate audience. Students should be willing to pursue their topics at an advanced level of involvement.
The 8th Grade Challenge Project is mandatory for all 8th graders at WCS. In September Swift House eighth graders received a copy of the handbook which provides an overview of the project.
At the end of the handbook there is a "Kick-Off" form which asks for students to commit to a topic and find a mentor for their project. The "Kick-Off" form is due on October 31st for Swift House students. For an electronic copy of the forms,

Fun Night
A huge thank you to Sarah Forbes and the many other parents and students who made Fun Night successful last night. We had a great turn-out and lots of fun, of course. Fun Night raises significant funds for our Washington DC trip.
