Thank you in advance!

Fun Night

We are so lucky to have the team of parents and students we do, with so many hands pitching in to make Friday's Fun Night a success.  Between snacks, set up, prizes, games, movies, materials, and just bring a ton of positive energy to the evening, we had many hands making it all happen.  We need to give a special "thank you" to Lisa Barland for coordinating all of the paperwork and Shelly Masson, our FAP rep, for organizing it all into one event!  Thank you!

Agave a Success!

The Dining for a Cause partnership on Thursday at Agave raised $485 for our trip.  Wow!  A huge thank you to Lisa Barland for putting this together when you see her and Agave for their generosity!

Fun Night- Friday, October 26th

This is our first major fundraiser for our Washington DC trip.  Here's how you can help:
  • Donate "prizes"~ Suggested prizes include; matchbox cars, stickers, youth jewelry, happy meal toys, clean dolls and stuffed animals. Our audience is grades K-5. If you have donations please leave them in the Swift House project room.
  • Volunteer your time
Thank you to all who have already signed up.

Washington DC

It's time to send in permission slips.  As mentioned last week, we distributed packets to interested students in kiva.  You can find links to the necessary paperwork in last week's Flyer, or ask your daughter or son to pick up a packet in the Swift kiva.

Theater

We are blocking scenes on stage, learning some stage combat, rehearsing lines over and over, pulling out costume pieces and props, and are basically fully immersed in the theater process.  At the moment, all of this work takes place during our literature block.  It's incredible what these kids can get done in a short amount of time!

We do need your help in two ways:
  • Costume Pieces: Please help your son or daughter assemble the necessary basic layers listed here

  • Save the Date: Thursday, November 8th at 6:00 pm-  Students will need to arrive at least an hour earlier for costumes and make-up.  We'll send out more details as the date gets closer.

Spiral International Trip to China

7th and 8th grade students are parents are invited to attend an informational meeting about the educational trip to China from April 15-27th with Spiral International. Students and teachers that attend spend 5 days in Chinese schools interacting with students and attending classes and 5 days learning about the Chinese culture. The informational meeting will be held on Monday, October 29th from 6:30-7:30 pm in the WCS Community Room. Mrs. Parks serves a trip facilitator through Spiral International.

For further information see the links below:

8th Grade Trip

We will attach information and forms to Greensheets this week with details about the 8th Grade Celebration Trip.  The school takes all interested and eligible 8th graders on a two day, one night trip to Ridin-Hi' Ranch in Warrensburg, New York at the end of May.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Washington DC

We kicked this year's field trip to Washington DC with a kiva presentation this past Thursday.  We reviewed the opportunities and expectations related to the trip, from the many sites students can visit to the behavior and fundraising expectations.  See the links below for more details.
Please note, we have a packet already made with the above forms available to all students in Swift.  Remind your son or daughter to bring a packet home if s/he is interested in the trip.   Also, parents available and interested in chaperoning need to complete a background check.  Begin the process by contacting Lisa Barland.

No School Oct 19th

October 19th is listed on the calendar as a Parent Teacher Conference day.   Swift House started conferencing in August and is not using this day for conferences.  We will schedule parent conferences again after the first trimester.

Homework Slips

If a student comes to class without homework done, the facilitator will write a "homework slip" which is delivered to the childs' core teacher.

If there is a pattern of homework slips the core teacher will email home.

Candidate Forum

If you would like to see some or all of last week's Candidate Forum, click here.  RETN worked hard to put the event online; it's a pretty incredible WCS tradition to get our politicians speaking with students every two years!
