Welcome Back!

Swift Flyer & Communications

Look for the Flyer each week for upcoming events and curriculum updates.  We focus on details specific to Swift families in addition to highlighting important WCS and community events.  We will record information that has also been emailed home, too, so you don't have to search through old emails for event details. If you ever have an item you'd like to share with our team, please send details to Amy Skapof.

Bookmark this page to allow ongoing reference to Swift happenings.  This blog is archived, searchable. and also includes links to the CVSD website, Swift website, Swift calendar, the School Bell, WCS library resources and Instagram.   Thanks for reading!

Friday Greensheets- Please Sign

Each Friday, Swift students visit their teachers for a signature on their "Greensheet."   A signature next to the class name indicates that all work is complete.  A circle next to the class indicates missing work, will be accompanied by a brief description of the specific assignment.

Your child should show you a completed Greensheet each Friday and ask for your signature at the bottom, indicating that you have seen the form.  Swifties then return the Greensheet to core teachers on Monday morning to close the home-school loop.   More to come on work completion in future weeks...

Swift Campout

We are so looking forward to our campout this week.  Thank you for sending in the necessary paperwork and to all who are able and willing to chaperone!  We have collected the following:
Also, your child has a packet with more details, including:
  • Group planning lists~ Shows which food and equipment each child is responsible for in their group
  • Individual Packing List~ Students should all bring their own lunch for Tuesday along with personal gear
  • Map of the park~We're in the lean-to loop- Chestnut through Poplar
  • Details about the team dinner Tuesday evening~ We welcome families to join us for dinner around 5:00 pm (please indicate on the permission slip if you plan on joining us).  After dinner, we will have our campfire and group skits. As always, we end the evening with candles under the stars before we head back to our tent sites, and visitors leave for home.
Finally, please submit $45 per child to the FAP Annual Fund to cover the costs of all school-day field trips for the year.  This fund replaces the per-trip payments we gathered in the past.

September Literature Groups

We are offering six book choices for September literature groups.  Students completed an online survey indicating their top three choices; we will create groups from there and begin literature classes on Friday, September 6th.  This and all are future literature group surveys are linked to your child's Google Classroom account which they can access from any device with an internet connection by heading to Gmail and logging in with: firstnamelastname@cvsdvt.org.

District Common Reads

We are very excited about the upcoming Common Read culminating event! The Common Read Celebration Day is taking place on September 5th with our current 4th, 6th, 8th, and 9th graders. For a reminder or more information about the Common Read, please visit this website: http://bit.ly/CVSDCommonRead.

The purpose of the day is to celebrate the Common Read books students received before the summer break, connect with their peers across the district, and expand on the themes of the books through an author’s keynote speech, workshops, and a collaborative art project. We anticipate a wonderful day to bring together our district around literacy and empathy building.

This Celebration Day is a field trip on September 5th, all day to CVU. Students will begin the day at their own school and will be transported by bus to CVU and back at the end of the day.

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee Opportunity

I’m pleased to announce we will have the second annual Hinesburg Hat Tournament on Sunday, October 13th from 10am to 2pm. Middle school players grades 5-8 will sign up individually and be placed on one of 4 teams that will play round-robin style, 3 games in a row. We will try to balance teams equally by experience and each team will have a coach. This was a lot of fun last year and is a great opportunity for some fall play for middle school players so please spread the word and sign up by October 4th with Hinesburg Recreation (hinesburgrec.com). Location will be the Bissonette Recreation Fields in Hinesburg

Williston Central Athletics

Dear 6th – 8th Grade Families,

Williston Central School Athletics are open to all students grades 6th-8th.  If your student would like to participate in any of the sports offered at WCS, please fill out and submit the WCS Athletic Permission Form  before coming to any tryout or practice.  If this form is not completed, your student will not be permitted to attend any practices or tryouts.

All practices start at 3:00 and end around 4:30. Students can be picked up at the rear entrance to the school. There are activity buses that run Mon, Wed, Thurs at 4:35 and Tuesday at 3:35. There will not be an activity bus on Fridays. Please arrange for your student to be picked up before 5:00.  Transportation to games will almost always be provided.  There will never be transportation after athletic events.

All athletes are also required to have had a current physical exam by a physician within the last TWO years, and have the Wellness Exam - Sports Participation Form filled out.  It must be signed by their physician and submitted to the nurse and Athletic Director at the school in order for them to participate.  Students will also need to have a current, signed Sports Team Contract for each sport they would like to participate in.

Please note that registration does not mean athletes will make a team. There are tryouts and sometimes cuts. Please see the athletics page for information on each sport.

Soccer starts: Thursday Aug 29th

Cross Country starts: Thursday Aug 29th

Field Hockey starts: Wednesday Sept 4th

Students should bring appropriate athletic gear to start practice on the first day. Mouth guards, eye protection and shin guards and cleats are required for Field Hockey. Shin guards and cleats are required for soccer.

Check the Athletics page on the school web site for more sports specific information and any schedule changes for this year.

Sincerely,

Nadine Paffett-Lugassy, WCS Athletic Director
