The Swift Flyer

The Swift Flyer highlights team curriculum, choices, celebrations, events and opportunities.  We try to minimize miscellaneous e-mail announcements by consolidating information here.  With that in mind, we appreciate you perusing this blog as it arrives so no one misses out on potential opportunities or important dates.

If you ever know of a community event of interest to Swift students and families, please feel free to send details to Amy Skapof for posting.

Please take note of the "Useful Links" to the right and the "Upcoming Events" above (if you are viewing the blog on a phone you will need to use "web view" to see links.  We suggest you bookmark the Swift Flyer to have quick access to both Swift and WCS resources.

Finally, Google calendar users can add the Swift Calendar to their own calendar by selecting the "Add calendar from URL" feature and pasting the URL linked here.

Grand Isle Campout

Many fabulous memories were made and new connections formed at Grand Isle this week.  Thank you, parents!  We couldn't do this without you.  Whether you chaperoned full time, part time, came for dinner, shopped for food, helped your child pack, or some or all of the above, you helped make this happen.

See our Instagram Posts for a snapshot of activities (and follow us at swift_flyforever for all Instagram updates).

Sustainability Action Project: Community Panel

We launched our Sustainability Action Project last week with an overview of the United Nation's Global Goals.  Click here to review our kiva slideshow.  Our next step happens this Thursday with the Sustainability Community Panel.  We have asked representatives from a variety of organizations to share about our community's assets and needs.  The panel will include folks from:

*Chittenden Solid Waste
*Williston Restorative Justice
*Lake Champlain Basin Program
*Williston Town Forest
*Habitat for Humanity Restore
*UVM 4H Extension
*Energy Efficiency Vermont
*Sustainable Williston
*Transition Town Williston
*Vermont Adaptive Sports
*Essex Senior Center
*Williston Rotary
*Seventh Generation
*CVU Sustainability Program

We will ask students to begin brainstorming community needs which they can address through group action projects, with the inspiration of these organizations.

Curriculum

Students focused on growth mindset strategies while solving group and individual challenges in math last week.  Literature groups started Wednesday based the results of this survey.   Chorus and band started this past Tuesday and 5th grade world language, science and social studies begin Monday.  This coming week will mark the first full week with our full load of classes; our children will certainly be tired by Friday!

Opportunities

Please see this week's School Bell for Continental Math and Intergenerational Reading information and registration.  Both of these fantastic opportunities are open to all 5th through 8th graders at WCS.
