Swift House Sponsored Dance

Swift House is sponsoring the school dance on Friday, March 4th at 6:30.  This means we are in charge of supplying chaperones and food for concessions.  All funds raised by school dances are split evenly among all teams to fund field trips.  It's a quick way to raise great money.

We'd love your help either as a chaperone from 6:15 to 8:30 or in supplying concessions.  Please click here to sign up for either activity.

Open House- Thank You

Thank you so much for being an excellent audience to all of the student presenters last Monday evening. Students truly value your feedback on their products and were proud to share with you!

NYC Field Trip

Now that we've wrapped up January independent projects, students heading to NYC in June will start working on their NYC Independent Projects.  For 5th-7th graders the process is similar to the January project.  They will develop a focus question related to a NYC site, find resources, take notes and work on a research report and visual.  The major difference is that they will complete their projects by gathering information from their chosen site.  Interviews, flyers, photographs, and tours all provide invaluable first-hand experience with their topic.

Eighth graders will find a connection to the 8th Grade Challenge in NYC and extend their research accordingly.  They will need to schedule an interview with an expert in the field in order to finalize their research.  For example, a student studying sports nutrition might schedule an interview with a professional sports nutrition consultant to learn more about the career.  Some of our most interesting side trips on our overnight trips have been in pursuit of these 8th grade interviews!

Click here to see a complete list of project due dates.  Core teachers will post and review these assignments through a dedicated Google Classroom.

All 8th graders should also be working on completing their Community Connections if they haven't already done so.  The final 8th Grade Challenge Presentations will take place after the NYC trip.

Brainology

All WCS 5th graders are taking part in a guidance class centered around the program "Brainology."  By learning how their brain works, they are taking steps to using growth mindset strategies to allow for continuous learning.  To learn more, see the Brainology website or watch the video below.
