Natalia Visits WCS!

Williston Central Students were treated to a concert in the auditorium by Natalia Gallego, or just Natalia.   Natalia has had numerous singles reach the #1 spot in her home country of Spain.  She taught us about flamenco dancing and her home town, and then performed her favorite music: pop.  Students got the chance to dance with her on stage and off.

Theater Festival Update and TICKETS

We are already at crunch time for the Theater Festival!  All students should have their lines memorized by Monday.  It is really helpful for them to recite their lines with a parent or a patient friend, perhaps even a pet!  We also need help on Wednesdays for set construction.  Show up anytime after school to join in with painting and building.  Soon we will be sending home costuming lists as well so students can gather items from home as needed.

Tickets for the performance on November 9th have gone on sale.  Use the order form found here to reserve seats ahead of time.  There will be more tickets available on the night of the show.

1st Trimester Conferences

Please sign up for a first trimester conference to review your child's portfolio. Your child will conference with you at home prior to this conference.  At this conference, the child will take the lead and discuss his/her achievements, challenges, concerns and wishes.  We all will discuss class reports, re-evaluate personal goals, and address any other questions or concerns you may have.

To sign up for a conference visit the Swift Conference Schedule Page (link on the right of this blog).  Use the log-in: parent1 and password: food.  To add your last name to your preferred time, click on the edit tab at the top of the page, then type your child's last name next to a time that works for you, and click save at the bottom of the page. Please contact your child's core teacher if you do not find a time that will work with your schedule.

Civics Lesson

WCS students will participate in voting on Election Day.  We also encourage them to accompany you to the polls.  They have been learning all about the Constitution in recent weeks and saw many Vermont candidates in person during the Candidate Forum.  For more inspiration to vote listen to these kids:

Washington DC

Core teachers sent home important links for students attending the Washington DC trip this week.  This is our last call for students who are interested in attending as well as a link for signing up for specific tours which require security clearance such as The White House, The Capitol, National Archives, Bureau of Engraving & Printing, Library of Congress, and The Pentagon.  The permission slip can be found here and the link for signing up for special tours is here.
