WORKING FROM HOME
It's pretty incredible working with these kids who are true "digital natives." If they haven't used a program before, they're not afraid to push the buttons to see what it will do! Seventh and eighth graders reviewed the process of balancing chemical equations using materials at home. They then uploaded photos of their work to Google Classroom to show us their creations.3D Model

REFLECTIONS FROM HOME
My life is really different than two short weeks ago because I was used to riding my bike or my parents driving me to other friend's houses, or on a day off going somewhere fun like Get Air. But now I can’t go to my friends' houses, I can’t go anywhere. I am not really used to spending the whole day in my house or my yard. My mom has been cooking a lot of family meals because we have not been going out to eat. If we run out of one thing, we can’t go to the grocery store to just get that one thing, we have to wait.
Social distancing has meant for me that my friends in our neighborhood cannot come over to play, I cannot see my family and give them big hugs. What has been hard for me is not seeing my friends because I am used to hanging out with them after school or on the weekends, but now I can’t. What makes me a little bit happy is that I am still able to see my friends over FaceTime if I have their number or my mom has their parents' number. I have been able to FaceTime [friends] and that has made me feel happy to see them and talk to them. Talking to them was fun because I haven’t seen them in a while.... ~Addie, 5th
IF YOU COULD INVENT ANYTHING...
"I would create a vaccine for the coronavirus because we are closing everything like my favorite sports and can't hang out with my friends and I am almost just stuck in my house the whole day. Another reason why I would create a vaccine is because people can’t work or get money, and I am not having fun." ~Oliver
"I would create an object call The Reverser that was a shape of a remote because if I used it on people who are Unsmart, Unthoughtful, Unaccepting, Rude and not a truth-teller, I would make them SMART." ~Christ
"I would invent a Plastic robo. A Plastic rbo would be a piece of machinery that when you throw plastic in the ocean it magicly sucks it up and makes the piece of plastic evaporate so that means that all the plastic in the ocean would be gone and that sea turtles will be out of harm. Who doesn’t like sea turtles. Also Climate change would die down and that means the world would become a better sustainable and environmentally friendly place for everyone. " ~Jackie
WHAT FOODS BRING UP SPECIAL MEMORIES FOR YOU?
One recipe and food are the things called “ploys” buckwheat pancakes because my great grandma was french canadian and these pancakes are french canadian. She would always cook the best ploys and she had the best recipe. ~Owen
A special memory for me is when we were in Costa Rica and it was really hot and I was wondering if they had a sherly temple but they didn’t and I said what else is good and they said the Fresca and i were like sure it was like the best thing I have ever had. ~Henry
A food that is special to me is ice cream because it reminds me of summer and hot weather . ~Travis
Meat pie brings back memories of my meme Morin she always used to make them for me and I had a special little pie plate just for me. If you don't know what meat pie is it is a french canadian dish that we would have at christmas and thanksgiving. My grandparents still have the pie plate and we sometimes try to make it but it is not the same. ~Kiernan
Meatloaf. It reminds me of my great great grandfather. He always smelled like ketchup and meatloaf. My family always has ketchup with our meatloaf and he always had at least 10 packets of ketchup in his coat pocket. I miss him. But ill always have my meatloaf with ketchup because of him. ~Lily
One food that brings up memories for me are pears. Pears always used to be my grandmother's favorite food. Every time we would see her we would either be eating one or have one in her bag for a snack. It was kinda crazy how much she loved pears but I never really liked them as a kid but when she introduced it to me again I loved them. I guess I take after my grandmother. I would always ask if I could have a bite of her pear and she would always say yes. But sadly my grandmother passed away. I was very sad to hear the news but she will always and forever hold a special place in my heart as well with pears. ~Jackie

NEIGHBORHOOD SCAVENGER HUNT
A friend shared an idea to have neighborhood scavenger hunts for kids who are out and about with their families. The idea is to put a stuffed bear or another stuffed animal in your windows so kids can have a scavenger hunt to find them as they walk/bike/drive through your neighborhood. I thought it was such a great idea for neighborhoods to participate. We already have homes on Southridge Rd., Harte Circle, and Metcalf Drive participating! ~Mary HillNYC REFUNDS

Sessions are open to all participants from school age to adults, some sessions that are more technical may be marked as more suitable for middle and high school students.- Climate Change in the Lake Champlain Basin: What's Already Happened and Where We're Headed with Dr. Eric Leibensperger - Climatologist SUNY Plattsburgh (Friday, April 17, 12-1pm): Climate change is here. We often think about climate change as a distant consequence of today's action, but we are already experiencing the impacts. This discussion will highlight changes that we have already observed and the changes that are projected to occur in the Champlain Valley. Register Online
- A Fish's Story: Following Lake Trout Movement around Lake Champlain with Matt Futia UVM PhD Candidate (Tuesday, April 21, 12-1pm): Studying aquatic organisms can have additional challenges from limited direct observation.
