  • Community Panel for 8th Grade Challenge Presentations

Each year our 8th grade present their year-long project to a panel of community members during the last week of school.  Having new faces in the classroom allows the 8th graders to reach beyond their classmates and teachers and creates a fresh audience.

We are looking for parents who would like to be part of the Community Panel. It is approximately a 3 hour commitment from 9:30 to 12:30 on Tuesday, June 13th.  Our 8th graders present in one of the four core classrooms, not necessarily their own.  We assign 3-4 community members to serve as the panel, asking questions and providing feedback for each presentation.

We welcome parents of any aged students, grandparents, friends of the family, mentors, etc.  If your child is an 8th grader, you may choose to watch students in another classroom if your own child may be too nervous with you in the room.  If you are the parent of a younger students, you may find it very helpful to see what 8th produce by the end of the year.

If you are interested in joining us, or know someone who would love to listen to 8th graders' final presentations, please e-mail Stephanie Bliss.  Thank you so much for considering!

    CODER CAMP FOR GIRLS

2017 Summer Camp Dates: July 17-21

Williston Campus Coder Camp for Girls is designed to give young girls the opportunity to bring their creativity and translate that into an active software coding environment. The Coder Camp for Girls is a day camp designed for girls ages 11–16 who want to learn about software development and experience making a program of their own creation.

Campers will work with Vermont Tech faculty and student counselors who have extensive experience with software development and inspired learning with a wide variety of students. Campers will learn to program using SCRATCH, a friendly and robust programming language tool developed by MIT. The camp experience includes a strong education component with computer labs each day to work on the development of a program, a field trip to a local software development company, and with physical activity that will reinforce the labs with logic, team building, and some good old fashioned fun.

    Insulation vs Conduction

Fifth and sixth graders have been learning about the transfer of thermal energy recently.  Why is it that some materials reduce the transfer of heat and others help pass heat along?  Which materials are insulators and which are conductors.  Click on the links below to see the class results as they tested insulators.
