March 6. 2015

 Washington DC

Students going to DC in June have begun their research projects, starting with choosing a topic and site to visit and brainstorming sub-focus questions.  Our next step is to reserve the special tours such as the Pentagon.

We will also be holding a parent meeting Monday, March 16th at 6:30 pm in Swift House.

Girls on the Run

Girls On The Run© is a national non-profit program that encourages girls in 3rd to 5th grade (and 6th to 8th grade for Girls on Track) to develop self-respect, confidence and a healthy lifestyle through a fun, interactive curriculum and fitness training activities. Our 10-week, 20-lesson program, held at schools throughout Vermont, fosters girls’ physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being, culminating in a wonderfully uplifting 5k Run/Walk in which everyone is #1!

Registration for both GOTR and GOT is now open for WCS's 2015 season. This year we have four GOTR groups and one GOT group in Williston:
  •  Group A - Tuesday & Thursday, 3-4:30p
  •  Group B - Tuesday & Friday, 3-4:30p
  •  Group C - Tuesday & Thursday, 5:30-7p
  •  Group D -Tuesday & Thursday, 5:30-7p
  •  Girls on Track (GOT) - Wednesday & Thursday, 5:30-7p

All groups will begin the week of 3/23 and meet twice per week at WCS for 10 weeks culminating with our 5k event in Essex on Saturday, June 6th.

Registration is online for the 2015 season. Please click on this link to complete the registration and payment process (which can be paid for by credit card or by check): http://girlsontherunvermont.org/girls-registration/

Engineering Challenge

Students are working on their prototypes in science class.  They will be put to the test next Thursday (5th/6th grade) and Friday (7th/8th grade) at the school wide Engineering Challenge Competition!

SBAC Announcements- Phones and Headphones

During the week of our SBAC on-line testing (March 24-29) kids will be asked to turn off their phones, iPads, iPods, etc. at the beginning of the day and turn them into their core teacher. We will keep them in the locked cabinet until the end of the day. During the weeks when other teams are testing, students will be reminded to turn off their wifi on their personal devices when they arrive at school. These messages will also be included in the Swift Flyer.

We are also looking to have headphones for every student stored here in Swift for the duration of the testing.  We currently have 78 sets and need 100 total.  If you have a set that you can send in with your son or daughter to store here, please do so.  Thank you!

Student Faculty Basketball Game

We had an exciting Friday before vacation, with a Mardi Gras Parade, Cake-Off and the Student-Faculty basket ball game. Check out the footage below.

Student Work

Seventh and eighth graders have been learning about the Holocaust in social studies class.  They researched concentration camps and created presentations for eachother.  Here are a few exemplars:

All Swift House students learned about solar system phenomena in science class.  They were asked to animate or illustrate these concepts in a group project.  Examples of their work are shown below:
