DC Fundraiser- Basket Raffle Fun Night - April 13, 2013

We are still in need of student and parent volunteers for the Fun Night.  Please click here to volunteer.  At this point, we do not have nearly enough folks to make this happen safely.  Our hope is that every family would participate in at least two fundraisers throughout the year, so please sign up!

Fact Fluency Challenge- Grades 3-8

Williston Central is challenging students to become proficient in their facts.  On our team, all students completed the pretest and now they can earn tickets for a drawing at the end of April.

There are three ways that students can get involved in the Fact Fluency Challenge…

1. Take a 100 fact pre-test (on one operation) during the first week of April and the post-test at the end of April.  For every additional fact that a student gets correct on the post-test he/she will earn an entry into a prize drawing.  Students who earn 95% or higher on the pre-test will automatically earn 10 entries into the prize drawing.  Teachers will arrange for the tests.

2. Keeping a log of fact fluency practice activities throughout the month will also result in winning prize drawing entries and a prize for classrooms.  Students have to log 15 activities (completed at home and/or school and initialed by an adult) to be entered in the prize drawing and to count towards earning the class prize. Logs will be handed out to all interested students and are due back to classroom teachers by April 30.

3. Contributing posts to our new fact fluency blog will also earn classes points toward a class treat.  To post from home, go to https://factfluency.blogspot.com.  Points can be earned for adding a new activity or trying and commenting on one shared by someone else.  Classes that have 15 or more posts (made by individuals and/or the class) by April 30 will win a class prize.  Directions for how to post are on the blog.  If posting from home, please let your child’s classroom teacher know so that it counts toward the class totals.

Eighth Grade Challenge Projects

David Roy has distributed collection boxes for the Williston Food Shelf in all the WCS teams.  He would love for students to each bring in a nonperishable item.  David's Eighth Grade Challenge is about "Starting a Business"

Zachary Varricchione has organized a Swift House T-shirt order.  It has been many years since we have done this.    Each shirt is $15 and a part of the cost will go to the Vermont Children's Hospital.  Click on the link above for the order form.  It was also attached to the Friday Slips this week.

Stock Market Update

We have gone down in the rankings this week!! This is the last week of the SMG.  We have had a lot of fun, and although our focus on economics next year will be on Swiftville, we plan to offer the SMG to interested folks in both the fall and spring sessions.  Students who would like can organize their own teams and they can work on it during core time, before/after school, one day during recess, etc.  If there is interest, it is easy to coordinate.

Here is the current status.

Swift Students saw the Voyager Play on Thursday, Dr. Jordyn and his Toybox of Success, written by Maddie Collins and Kaitlyn Kaplan. Swift really enjoyed this play and were a great, appreciative audience.  Any interested student who would like to take on such a creative writing piece, is welcome to do so for our Theater Festival next year!
