Flashlight Drive for Puerto Rico at WCS

Ever since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, over 80% of public schools in Puerto Rico have been closed, and still are! Tanner Wolpert and Asa Roberts are working with former Swift student Storm Rushford's and his family, to send flashlights to help these schools. Our goal is to send more than 450 flashlights by Friday, Nrvembeo 17th. These flashlights will help a school without power by bringing enough light for students to read and write as soon as they can. The types of flashlights we are looking for are relatively cheap and light, and suitable for moving around the school. Please drop off your flashlight donations in the box outside of the front office at WCS!

Swift Theater Production

Thank you for your support on another great year of theater!  We are so appreciative of:
  • Patrick Clow who helped direct both The Tempest and Robin Hood
  • Kim Jennings who put together and organized costumes for both shows as well
  • The many families who helped us with the most thorough strike and clean up ever
  • Swift students for pulling all of the many moving pieces together to put on the show!

For many more photos, or to save copies of photos yourself, please see our Google Folder.

Congratulations to Vanessa and Amelia Worth, and Maeve Serinese for their wonderful performance in the CVU production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!  The participated as part of the "Children's Chorus."

Social Studies Update

7/8 grade Social Studies students have been busy exploring the 5 themes of geography: location, place, region, human/environmental interaction, and movement. Students worked in groups to create slideshow presentations about man-made environmental issues last week. They researched what is causing the issue, where it is happening, and what we can do to help. Please take a look at some of our presentations!

5/6 have been learning about the fine nuances of map making. We've been studying how to use a scale, compass rose, and a legend with symbols. The students recent finished their draft of mapping out Williston Central School from a bird's eye view.

Winter Clothing Drive Refugee Outreach Club (R.O.C.) is teaming up with Williston Central School to host a winter clothing drive from November 1 through November 12. Please bring in new or gently used winter coats, hats, mittens, boots, and any other warm clothing to the main lobby at CVU or to the lobbies at any of the local elementary schools in the CSSU district. All donations will be going to the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program and other organizations with a mission to provide for local New American communities in Vermont. Thank you for all of your support.
