FAPAC January 2017 Meeting Highlights Information

The FAP Advisory Council held its monthly meeting on January 12th.  FAP is Williston's equivalent of a parent-teacher organization.  We meet each month, our meetings are open to all, and you will receive an email like this every month with highlights of the meeting.  Check the FAP website for the full minutes in a PDF format by clicking
here.  The meeting was also recorded and is available for viewing online.
You can now follow us on Facebook and Twitter (@FAP_Williston)!
Below are the meeting highlights:
FAP Chair:
The FAP would like to welcome our next chairperson, Emily Downing-Ponce!  Emily has graciously accepted the position for next school year and will be shadowing the remainder of the school year.

FAP Annual Fund:
We are still accepting online donations for the Annual Fund.  The Zimmerman Fund recently donated $2000 to the Annual Fund!  A reminder that the Annual Fund directly funds house accounts for field trips, guest speakers and other activities your child participates in.  EVERY student, in EVERY grade receives a direct benefit from the Annual Fund!
The link to donate to the Annual Fund can be found here.  We are currently at 39% participation – let’s bring that number up!

Upcoming Events:
Speaker Series: Mindful Self-Care & Stress Reduction for Parents & Caregivers” January 30th, 6:30 – 8:30 @ WCS Dining Room
This series will be led by Williston-based therapist, Angie Ferenc, MA LCMHC. - "While parenting can be full of joy, it can also leave us feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and spread thin. In this 2 hr workshop we will explore the role of stress in our lives and the negative impact it has on the mind and body"

Big Basket Raffle: March 25th @ WCS
Planning is underway for this year’s Basket Raffle!  Jackie Parks and John Terko are hosting again.  Reminder to all that this is an Adult Only event.  The Swift House will be hosting a Fun Night that children in grades k – 4 can attend during the event.

Williston Runs for Education: May 20th
The committee is actively seeking additional people to help plan the event. Please contact kao_wolverine@yahoo.com for more info.

Administration Update:
Renovation Project: Hiring is underway for the construction management firm that will complete the renovation work.  As soon as the construction firm has been selected, we will begin developing the schedule for construction.  The plan is to start construction at the end of the school year.  More information will be provided soon!

Penguin Plunge: WCS has formed a team for this year’s Penguin Plunge being held on February 4th and Greg Marino will be joining the team. Please consider making a pledge to the Vermont Special Olympics. Currently the team is at $5000.

School Board Update:
The Williston School Board has a regular board meeting on February 21st. The Williston School Board will continue until December 31, 2017 and the Spring ballot has two open seats.
