ABS Fun Night- Fundraiser
Swift House is sponsoring an ABS Fun Night on Saturday, Oct. 6th, 2012. All proceeds will go towards our DC trip. Our goal is to raise $10,000 this year and we are 1/10 of the way there. This fundraiser has the potential to raise over $2,000 in 2 hours! Your contribution of 2 hours and/or food and drink will make this event successful. Please click here to sign up to help.
This is also a good opportunity to get rid of some small, kid friendly, items you have cluttering your home (think stuffed animals, sticker books, fun pens, old party favors, etc). These are perfect prizes for our bingo activity. You can drop those off in the Swift house project room no earlier than Friday, Oct. 5th or preferably bring them to ABS the evening of Oct. 6th.
If you have any questions or would like to help with the planning of this event please contact me at email@example.com.

Polar Express- December 8th
Swift House has a long tradition in helping with The Polar Express, which raises over $70,000 each year for the Vermont Children's Trust Foundation. Last year we had nearly half our team participate. We will be sending the details when the time gets closer, but we will meet around 2:45 at the downtown Burlington train station, and will be "elves" until 7:45. Gary Howard, our beloved retired Swift Facilitator, will be the "Santa" on this day and we will get our traditional Swift House photo with him! If you would like participate please sign up here.
Candidate Forum- Friday, October 5th
Williston is hosting a Candidate's Forum on Friday, October 5th. We will have a "Business Friday" dress for all students who wish to get in the spirit of the day! Fifth and sixth graders are creating candidate posters and the seventh and eighth graders are creating questions for the U.S. Representative race. Two of our older students will be selected to ask questions. Jimmy Jiang will be working with RETN on filming the event. We will send you the link to the video when it comes available.
NECAP Testing- Week of October 8th
We will be testing the week of October 8th. Please be sensitive to outside appointments. We will be starting at 9:30 each day. We will have a snack sign-up next week. Thanks in advance for making sure your children get a good night's sleep and a good breakfast. We will be limiting homework.
Washington DC Trip
Please send in your DC permission-intent form, if your child and you intend to go on the fabulous trip. Currently, we have approximately 50 students and 25 parents who have sent in forms. If you are unable to send in deposits at this time, but you know your child (and possibly a chaperone) are intending to go, please send in the form so we don't open up the slots to students on other teams. A few parents have already done this. If you have any questions, please email Julie Longchamp at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Exploravision Competition- Fridays afterschool
Exploravision is a science/technology competition, sponsored by the National Science Teacher's Foundation and Toshiba, for students in grades k-12. For several years Ms. Longchamp has been advising teams in Swift who have submitted entries into the competition. The competition requires students to research and understand a current technology and its history, and then design the technology twenty years into the future. Karen Cutler is supporting this competition as a parent volunteer/mentor. Students who wish to participate in the competition should contact Ms. Longchamp. Students work in teams of 2-4 students in grade levels 4-6, and 7-9, so for our team the 5/6th graders and 7/8 graders are on separate teams. More information on this competition can be found at www.exploravision.org. The entry deadline this year is the last Thursday in January.
