Welcome Back Swifties!

WEEK IN REVIEW

We are very excited about this new school year.  We have fabulous students and staff joining and returning this year.  In the month of September we will introduce you to our interns and new staff.  In the meantime, here is the news from the first week of school.
  • Camp-out Planning: Student leaders created camp-out groups and began planning for next week.  They have designated who is bringing what food and equipment.  Students should have brought home a packet on Friday with this information along with permission slips and information about Grand Isle State Park.  If your son or daughter did not bring this home and you need more information please contact his or her core teacher.  Please send in permission slips on Tuesday if you have not already done so.  Also, remember that in lieu of indiviual payments for each field trip we are asking all parents to contribute a one-time payment of $40 to Williston Wins.  See below for more information and a payment link.
  • Literature Group Sign-Up: Students finished selecting their top three choices for the literature groups.  We are in the process of forming these groups and will start literature classes on Wednesday, September 5th.
  • Core Work: All students are writing two journals this week, "Summer Highlights" and "Hopes and Dreams."  The core journal is a weekly assignments which allows students to share their ideas and writing strengths with core teachers.  Topics will range from personal reflections to current events and everything in between.  Students are also working on a "Biographical Poem" which will include drawings  and a photo of themselves to be posted in the classroom.  Both the journal and poem are due on Wednesday, September 5th.
  • Greensheets: We will complete our first Greensheet on Wednesday, September 5th and ask that students return it with your signature on Thursday.  Students will obtain signature for each class showing that they are up-to-date on their school work.  Students will normally bring these home on Friday afternoons, ask for a parent signature, and then return them to the core teacher Monday.  We truly value this student-teacher-parent connection and will have them personalized with student goals during the first month of school.

WILLISTON WINS

Last year was the first year that the Williston FAP engaged in a creative, alternative fundraising campaign.  Prior to this, teachers asked parents for money to cover costs of Flynn Field trips, Fall Camp-Outs, and end of the year activities.  The FAP worked diligently to offer parents an easier way to cover these costs....a tax deductible donation!  The suggested donation amount per student is $40 for the year.  Parents are free to donate more or less depending on family resources.  For Swift House, this means that we will not be selling any wrapping paper or asking parents for any money for teamwide activities, including our fall campout, which runs about $20 per person.  Please click here to make your contribution.
